Before writing anything else, allow me to be clear that I do not have every detail or every answer surrounding this move to the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam.  However, there is information that needs to be shared and the dialogue expanded.  I welcome your input and feedback, as does the medical board, as we continue to work toward improving the field of massage therapy.

As stated on the SMBO website: On January 24, 2012, the State Medical Board of Ohio will begin accepting applications from new applicants wishing to obtain a massage  therapy license from the State of Ohio.  Interested applicants must have passed the Massage and Bodywork  Licensing Examination (MBLEx) administered through the Federation of State  Massage Therapy Boards and meet all the requirements for licensure under Ohio  law.  Licensure applications may be  downloaded by clicking on the examination option to the left.  Applications may also be requested by sending  an e-mail to Med.CT.MT@med.state.oh.us  or by calling  the Medical Board at 614-466-3934.  The  application fee is $150.00.

Here’s what I understand from what I read:

  1. If you are licensed already, you are licensed.  Renew as usual.
  2. There will no longer be a state administered test.
  3. New applicants must have already passed the MBLE

What I want to understand:

  1. What you know about this
  2. What you think about this
  3. What you want to know about this

Thank you for sharing your passion for massage! It’s important that we all work together to continue to improve our profession. It takes a village people… get involved, and let’s spark some conversation!
